Fantasy Pet Peeves: Kristen
“They broke their fast on bread…” or “They sat down to break their fast.”
Maybe it’s the Catholic in me that wants to shout… Fasting means going without something for an extended period! Or for a purpose, not just… oh I didn’t eat while I was sleeping or walking!
Okay, I know that Break the Fast…. = Breakfast in the modern day. It’s even the same in Spanish Des Yunar… Stop Fasting. But… really, just say They Ate. I’m sure a lot of folks disagree with me, or think it adds a “period” feel to a piece, but we’re all allowed our personal little irritations right? The only time I want to see someone Breaking Their Fast is if we’re writing about Ramadan or Lent, or something religous.
Hee… what do you guys think? Am I crazy? Are there other Break – the- fast haters out there?
